Song 2 Ed Sheeran: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_af256mnTE
I had developed some work that was based on the area of my
interest but I want to put a bit of my personality into the project through other
interest of mine. As a hobby I enjoy singing so I want to produce my own song
that included the telling of a true story. I want to write a song about a true
event that had happened of a break up.
Two of my favourite artists that tell stories in their songs
are Ed Sheeran and Jimmy Eat World.
Both of the music videos tell a different story but I what
interested me was the music arrangement. I really liked how Ed Sheeran only
uses one instrument, the guitar because it made the song light and set a mood
to fit into the story that was being told through the lyrics.
Jimmy Eat Worlds song I looked at is similar but the song is
a bit heavier because of the drums. To my interests his song also told a story.
This song was a little too repetitive and I didn’t feel it moved the story fast
enough compared to Ed Sheerans song I searched.
What I took from the research of both artists songs was how
important the lyrics were to tell a story in a narrative structure so that the
listener can follow it. I also think that the pace of the songs affected the
mood and feeling to the song. Now I can use this research as inspiration for my
own work.
I didn’t know how I wanted to visual display may video so I
looked at one video that showed a different way of creative arrangement using
one screen. The video was split up into a range of smaller screens on show at
one time to show the different instruments and angle shots of the performer.
This video looked like it was shot using studio lighten and to create a
professional style. I did like the arrangement of this video but I don’t think
it would suit the type of music I want to produce, but it was an eye opener for
future work.
I had already done a lot of research into camera techniques
from my major project so I didn’t research into this area but I did look at one
interesting video that refreshed my mine ready for the practical stage.
