Overall I really enjoyed the project and learnt a lot from
mistakes that were made and solving them. One problem that occurred was
recording sound in the studio but this was solved by analysing what was wrong
with the sound and then re-recorded in a different environment to correct the
error. What I have improved on is my camera skills and controlling light when
filming. I have also explored more into the editing programmes that will be
used for my major project. I feel that I have accomplished the goals I aimed to
set out when I started the project and I am very happy with the work that I
have produced. There is room for improvement on the work but reflecting on the
results I would say that I can see the qualities I didn’t have when at the
beginning of the course and this is has me and made me more confident for the
filming that will be carried out for my major project.

About The Music Video
I wanted to make something that was enjoyable to produce and
showed some other talents that I have. I thought that I could put my personal
experience and feelings into the work. The music video is a short film that is
about a woman who became divorced because her partner had left her for another
woman. The style of the music came from the inspirational research that had
been looked at, and the lyrics of the song came from my heart based of my
personal feelings to the story. I really enjoyed writing the song and recording
it. I found it exciting to approach the filming without any storyboards to
follow because I feel that I performed better without feeling the need to
restrict myself by planning.
The video was made based off a true event that happened with
a slight change on the background to the story. The lyrics in the song tell the
story of a broken heart and the visuals show the affect it has had on the
woman. The film was shot using a Panasonic HD video camera which is not one of
the better cameras available to me but it was choice to create a grainy look to
the film as part of the feeling to the story. To add to the mood of the film a
grey/colour filter was used. I experimented with many filter colours until I
found the one that contributed to the feeling of the story. When it came to
editing the video, I experimented with effects on the video and came to the
conclusion that the video didn’t need loads of effects on it because it ruined
the telling of the story. One or two effects were used with care in relevant places
that did work in the feeling to the story.

Recording The Music Again
Today I re-reordered the music to the video due to the bad
recording first time. With the help of John Hill playing the guitar for me I
recorded the melody first and then recorded the lyrics on top. I located the
recording session in the controls room because it was a small room and had
sound padding around the room. As a result of this the sound will have reduced
reverb for a better quality sound.

Recording The Music
Today I recorded my song. I used the studio sound equipment
to record this. To reduce the echoes around the room when making sound I used
sound padding around myself. After this was set up I recorded the guitar tune
first and then the voice over the top. I recorded them separate so I can have
more control over volume levels between the two tracks for editing.

Filming Part 2
Today I have filmed in my second location which was my
house. What I learnt from producing the photography photos was used in today’s
filming because I had to use a range of light sources for the different areas
in the house. The kitchen had a lot of natural light but I added light to the
location because my subject was to dark, I overcome this problem by using bulb
lights. In the bathroom I only used natural light through the window because I
wanted my subject to look dark. I wanted to put this scene towards the end of
the film which would set the mood using low lightening.
Today I finished getting all of the footage I wanted ready
for the post-production stage.

Filming Part 1
Today was a lovely day to go out and film in the first
location, Porthcawl beach. The weather was windy and it was sunny but the sky
was a bit dark, but this was purposely filmed with the weather like this
because it adds to the story and mood.
It was a productive day by achieving the start and finish to
film in this location. I can start to edit the footage and see what shots will
emerge in the video and where in the song.
